The Isle, Whit Monday 1913. The congregations of the local Methodist churches, along with their banners have assembled on Stocks Hill for the 'Sing'. Everyone wore their best clothes and for the children this was traditionally the time when new clothes would have been bought. The road on the extreme right of the picture is Townend Road , which leads via the Wheel to Grenoside. [click on the Isle cottages for a close up]
