St Mary's Lane after widening, in the early years of the 20th century. Before these road works were undertaken, the lane was not wide enough for vehicular traffic. Even now the top of the lane, behind the photographer is barely wide enough for two cars to pass, and not wide enough for  larger vehicles to pass.

The large building on the left in front of the church is the Black Bull public house.
